LITTER WATCH
How To Participate
The purpose of the Litter Watch program is to observe and report littering
incidents in Athens and Limestone County. We need YOUR eyes to help us
find and admonish litterbugs. Once KALB receives a LITTER REPORT,
we work with the appropriate law enforcement agency to insure the owner of the
vehicle involved receives a Warning Letter from the Athens Police or Sheriff's
Department along with educational materials from KALB. Don't think a
Warning Letter won't get results!....sometimes these letters go to the spouse or
parent of the litterbugs if the driver is not the owner on record. Most
often the litterbug is embarrassed by being "caught" by a fellow citizen --- and
they know that other citizens are watching!
When an ILLEGAL DUMP SITE REPORT is received,
KALB will make contact with the appropriate ordinance officer or sheriff's
deputy. The dump site will be investigated and if identifying information
is found in the debris, the offenders can be cited and will be made to clean up
their mess.
