Cycling for Recycling and Recycling for Cycling

Cycling for RecyclingIt was a great day for a bike ride!  On November 13th advocates of cycling took a slow ride through Athens.

The ride brought attention to the benefits of leaving your vehicle at home and using your bike for transportation, but that's not the end of the story!

Our focus now will be to raise funds for the purchase of bike racks for the Athens Courthouse Square.  Beginning on America Recycles Day November 15th through Earth Day on April 22nd, you can help with that effort.

Here is how you can play a part in making this vision a reality.

Recycling for Cycling:  Save your aluminum cans, collect them from your friends, or start a collection at work.  Bring the cans to the KALB office at 125 East Street and toss them into the Take a Shot at Recycling trailer located in the parking lot.  The cans will be collected from America Recycles Day on November 15th through Earth Day on April 22nd.  All proceeds from the sale of the cans at our Recycling Center will be put toward the purchase of bike racks for downtown Athens.

Purchase a T-Shirt:   These great shirts are bright green for visibility and look great even when you're not riding a bike!  Shirts are $10 each with sizes ranging from youth medium to adult extra-large.  You will find the shirts for sale at the KALB office and at the Visitors Center at 100 Beaty St.  All proceeds will be put toward the purchase of the bike racks.Cycling for

Cycling for Recycling:   After a very successful first slow ride on November 13th, we would like to have rides once a month from now until spring, weather permitting.  Once the bike racks are purchased, there will be a bike ride to the square to unveil the bike racks and celebrate our success!

Watch for these organized rides and bring your friends and family out for a leisurely ride through town.

KALB is working with the City of Athens on the purchase and placement of the bike racks. It is our hope that by providing a safe place to secure bikes, more people will choose their bike as transporation to town.
