City Recycling
Athens Curbside Recycling:
The Recycling Center works with the City of Athens by accepting and processing all materials picked up at curbside. Green recycling bins are available to any Athens resident by visiting the Recycling Center or calling the Recycling Coordinator at 233-8000. Curbside recycling is picked up by a separate truck on the same day as your regular garbage pickup. If you have any questions about curbside service, contact the Street and Sanitation Department at 233-8747. The following items can be recycled at curbside:
- Newspaper
- Junk Mail and Magazines
- Metal Cans
- Aluminum Cans
- Glass: clear, brown, and green
- Plastic #1 and #2 only
- Used Motor Oil - place in a see-through container with a tight lid.
Labels do NOT need to be removed.
Please do not put your recyclables in plastic bags - one plastic bag can contaminate a truckload of paper.
